Omri Casspi, the first Israeli-born player ever selected in the first round of the NBA draft, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Houston Rockets, according to Yahoo! Sports.

According to league sources, Casspi’s deal was signed on for $2 million and will include a team option in 2014-15.

Casspi, now 25, joined the NBA in 2009 with the Sacramento Kings. After averaging a career-best 10.3 points in his rookie season, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers just prior to the 2011 lockout.

“Casspi was notably unhappy in Cleveland but could never reach an out with the team. The Rockets badly need small forward help and Casspi has shown to have some success in more spread-out systems,” Matt Moore, NBA writer, writes on CBS Sports.

Casspi’s role has been “increasingly diminished”, according to Yahoo! Sports, over the past two seasons with the Cavaliers, and the Rockets have been interested in signing him for quite some time… so suffice to say, it was perfect timing for all.
