James Franco Pens Love Letter to Jonah Hill

The ‘This is The End’ co-stars could have a bromance in the works

Is there another bromance in the works? We think so and if you don’t believe it, James Franco’s love letter to Jonah Hill on Vice.com will definitely convince you.

For his weekly contribution to the website, Franco chose to write a kind of biographical love letter to his fellow actor, and friend, Jonah Hill. The piece titled, “My Friend, Jonah” takes us through the acting life of Jonah Hill – from Superbad to his Oscar nominated role in The Wolf of Wall Street.

“I speak of the Apocalypse of Jonah Hill. It’s one that is particularly enjoyable,” Franco writes, beginning his ode to Jonah Hill.

“Jonah is a person who is so damn entertaining, a loveable mensch who embodies so much and has so much more to give. So much potential. I, too, am an entertainer, though one clothed in much different skin.”

Clearly, James Franco wouldn’t be James Franco if he didn’t talk about himself in some way and it definitely shows up in this letter. The actor took to describing himself, through the “Blue book of Executive Producers, Casting Directors, and Studios” in a lengthy, wordy paragraph,

“Caucasian, supporting or leading in dramas, Bromance, stoner flicks, Broadway, and weird indie shit: Slightly ethnic in the East Coast way – a space that 70 years ago would have been filled by the likes of Calrk Gable or Cary Grant – one further progressed by the earnest and category-defying dedication of full-blooded Italians like 70s-era DeNiro and Pacino, and tough-and/orsensitive-Jewish-guy performances by Dustin Hoffman.”

For the rest of the letter, Franco spends his time paying out compliments to not only Jonah Hill who is considered to be “…so fucking good in Superbad that wordsmiths of the likes of Eminem have memorized his every line,” but Seth Rogen as well. Franco, in fact, spends his time defending Seth Rogen to his “physician friend in Palo Alto” for a good portion of the letter.

“Seth is someone who makes movies his own way, and successfully—one who doesn’t bow to accepted formulas of filmmaking and, in fact, plowed the way for performers like Jonah as the lovable, straight-talking anti-leading man,” the 36-year-old writes, but his friend doesn’t seem to be convinced.

Franco finishes his letter by reminiscing about his own Comedy Central roast, of which Jonah Hill participated in.

Franco muses, “I think Jonah came out of that experience a better person because he faced his fears, and in such a public way. From this point on his career and life choices can be made from a centred place, because he has accepted who he is: a talented young nebbish who can swing both ways (comedy and drama) better than anyone.”

Of course, it isn’t too self-absorbed to say that another actor’s success is almost entirely related and because of you… is it?
