Jerusalem Film Festival Postpones Opening Night Amid Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Due to the current Israeli-Palestinian hostilities unfolding, organizers of the Jerusalem Film Festival (JFF) have decided to postpone the opening night gala for a week. The festival was originally scheduled to open Thursday, with the world premiere of Eran Riklis’ Dancing Arabs, which was penned by Israeli-Arab journalist and author, Sayed Kashua. However, said film will now open on July 17th, as the open-air venue where it was intended to screen, was deemed a security risk.

“The escalation in the last few days has been distressing to all of us, and we are hoping that quieter days will come soon. The festival will continue as planned, in accordance with the guidelines given to us by the Homefront Command and the police. The team at the Jerusalem Cinematheque is looking forward to seeing the many lovers of cinema who visit us each year,” said JFF director, Noa Regev.

The remainder of the festival will continue as planned, running from July 10th to July 20th. More than 200 films are scheduled to screen, with guests such as Spike Jonze, David Mamet, and Martina Gedeck attending.
