Jewish Superhero Declares, “Holy Tefillin, Rabbi!”

At this time of the year, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” is a common refrain.

However, recently, thanks to a rare Super Hero sighting in Coral Springs, “Yes, Danielle, there is a Jewish Batman,” is equally prominent.

While paying a visit to the hospital room of Danielle Chaya bas Avivah, a terminally ill youngster from his community, Coral Springs Shliach, Rabbi Avraham Friedman bumped into a surprise visitor at the hospital, namely one Batman, who was visiting other terminal patients in order to entertain them while lifting their spirits.

Sadly, Danielle, just 19 years old, is in the hospital’s Oncology Ward as she battles brain cancer.

And, while we’ve all heard the stories about this – or that – Super Hero being Jewish, it turns out that this Caped Crusader was definitely a Member of the Tribe.

In what Rabbi Friedman described as an act of “Hashgocha Protise”, or divine providence, he bumped into Batman (there was no reported sign of Robin) in Danielle’s room.

After running into the rabbi, the Caped Crusader quickly declared, “Yes! I am a member of the tribe, too!”

Rabbi Friedman responded to Batman’s declaration of Judaism by asking that he put on Tefillin, and, after agreeing, he put on only the Shel Yad , the arm Teffilin, because, of course, had the Penguin or the Riddler been wondering the hospital’s halls too, he couldn’t take off his mask and risk revealing his true identity.

After reciting Shema and Tehillim together Batman, somewhat sheepishly, admitted to Rabbi Friedman that this was the first time he had ever put on Tefillin.
