Welcome to Jewish Top 10s, where we compile lists that highlight the best and the brightest of everything yehudi, from delicious recipes to funniest actors, to most obnoxious Jewish wedding songs.

Now that the holidays are officially over, and we’re running out of Best of 2013 lists, there’s another, more insightful list we’ve been anticipating: The Most Anticipated of 2014.

Whether you’re a fan of film, television, music, or the like, we’ve searched far and wide to compile what we’re most excited about that is set to drop in 2014.

Also, we’ve included the release dates in case you want to jot the info down on your calendars.

Release Date: January 13

Why We’re Excited: Shalom Life’s own News Editor, Daniel Koren, is probably H. Jon Benjamin’s biggest fan and for good reason: Benjamin is featured on almost every single one of the funniest animated shows on television. Of all these great roles and voices, Archer is probably the most consistently and increasingly hilarious shows running, and we could not be more excited about season 5.

A spy comedy about the world’s best spy and worst human being, Archer is also an Arrested Development reunion. Judy Greer and Jessica Walter are cast regulars with David Cross and Jeffrey Tambor making frequent appearances, so if that isn’t reason enough, we aren’t sure what will convince you. Perhaps that every episode is constantly building on itself, joke-wise, not unlike AD. But you can be sure that all will be silent here on Monday, when the new season, nicknamed Archer Vice, starts again.

Release Date: Early 2014

Why We’re Excited: Action Bronson, our favourite newschool rapper, has been a serious up and comer in recent years, making critically acclaimed mixtapes and collaboration albums that have finally, finally culminated in his first major record label released early this year. While a date has yet to be set, the New York rapper has managed to get Kool G Rap and Mobb Deep for the record, and rumours of a Nas appearance, which is pretty exciting in itself.

Release Date: March 28

Why We’re Excited: Darren Aronofsky is a stylish and brilliant filmmaker who keeps putting out some of Hollywood’s biggest and most acclaimed films. With numerous Academy Award nominations and plenty of cult followings for films like The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, and Black Swan, Aronofsky’s latest film is also his biggest budget, so seeing what he does with an estimated $130 million dollars will surely be interesting. Noah will tell the tale of Noah’s Ark, with Russell Crowe and longtime collaborator Jennifer Connelly playing Noah and his wife, and is sure to be a stylish and artistic take on the classic story. We aren’t expecting absolute accuracy, but seeing what a gifted filmmaker does with such a widespread and important story of survival will certainly provoke some serious discussions later this year.

Release Date: June 13

Why We’re Excited: To be honest, I was not expecting anything of 21 Jump Street. I mean, when was the last time a movie based on an old TV show was anything but awful? 21 Jump Street defied all my expectations and was just a plain funny movie. Jonah Hill’s return to the high school comedy, with a twist and unexpectedly great performance by Channing Tatum, was uproariously funny. The sequel comes out this year, this time seeing the duo go undercover at college to bust a crime ring. With Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall (who also worked on Scott Pilgrim and the first 21 Jump Street) drafting the story, we can only expect more laughs, more outrageous hi jinks, and more callbacks to the eighties.

Release Date: July 18

Why We’re Excited: With The Matrix Sequels a distant stain, Lana and Andy Wachowski returned to fine form with 2012’s Cloud Atlas, using unconventional filming techniques and storytelling to bring a film that was truly unlike anything we had seen before. Now they are set to return with Jupiter Ascending, a film about a Russian immigrant janitor who meets an interstellar warrior claiming she may be the Queen of the Universe. This may just be the Wachowski’s at their most outrageous, but every time they seem to go too far “out there,” they end up doing something brilliant. Jupiter Ascending will certainly divide critics, but it’s also the only summer blockbuster of 2014 that isn’t an adaptation or sequel, so we’re eager to see just what original ideas Hollywood has left. Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum star.
