Kickstarter Campaign To Transform Jewish Home Into Vegetarian Cafe

Recently, the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Poland fronted a kickstarter campaign to convert the last ever Jewish home in the city of Auschwitz into a full on kosher vegetarian café.

The campaign has just surpassed its initial goal of $25,000 (currently at $28,445) to transform the proposed site, which was the home of one Szymon Kluger, the last Jew to live in Auschwitz. Kluger returned to the city after the Shoah and remained until his death in 2000.

The new goal stands at $30,000.

The campaign was initiated in a bid to save the historic building to prevent it from collapsing.

The new café will border the Auschwitz Jewish Center and ideally offer visitors of the area a unique variety of kosher, vegetarian delicatessen.

In 2012, a record 1.43 million visitors arrived at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial site in southern Poland.

During the European Football Championship in 2012, throughout which Poland hosted several games, many European football squads came to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp, including players from England and Germany.
