Legendary Comedian, Joan Rivers, Dies at 81

Last Thursday, Joan Rivers was rushed to New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest when she stopped breathing during a routine vocal chord surgery at a nearby clinic.

Rivers has since been in a medically induced coma, with her daughter Melissa “keeping her fingers crossed” for her mother’s recovery. Tragically, on Thursday September 4th, it was confirmed that Rivers has passed away at the age of 81.

The New York state health department is now investigating the circumstances surrounding her cardiac arrest during the outpatient procedure at an endoscopy clinic.

Rivers has been making audiences roar with laughter for over 50 years. After getting her start on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Johnny Carson, she has since hosted and starred in multiple TV shows, written books, and continued to do standup comedy until the Wednesday evening before going in for her day surgery.

Melissa Rivers released a statement following her mother’s death, stressing that “my mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh.”

“Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon,” she continued.
