Local Hockey Team to Wear Seinfeld Puffy Shirts for Charity
Bakersfield Condors, the Edmonton Oilers affiliate team, will be skating Seinfeld style to help raise money for a good cause

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Seinfeld’s premier onto network television.
The show, which reinvented the modern sitcom through it’s hilarious handling of everyday themes, has gained a cult following since it’s debut and has been celebrated for its wit and innovation. There’s even a modern-day Seinfeld Twitter handle that imagines how the gang would deal with 21st-century situations.
Sports teams in particular seem to be flocking towards Seinfeld themed game nights in the wake of its 25th anniversary.
Just this past April, the Brooklyn Cyclones, an affiliate of the New York Mets, hosted a Seinfeld night. The team practiced in puffy shirts during batting practice, a fully uniformed mailman gave the first pitch, and genuine latex salesmen got into the park (which had been named Vandelay Industries Park for the occasion). They also gave out “Magic Loogie” bobbleheads to the first 2,500 fans who came to the game.
Following their example, the Bakersfield Condors hockey team, an affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, will be playing on November 16th in “puffy shirt” jerseys that will sport one of twenty-five character names from the show on the back. ESPN reports that twenty of the names have already been chosen, but the public is now able to vote for the last five. Some of the name already selected include Jerry, George, Kramer, Peterman, and even Bubble Boy.
As you can tell, the Condors are pretty stoked about the game:
Top of the Muffin to You! MT @CraigJButton: @Condors Mr. Pitt, Babu, Rachel

Bette Midler was going to sing the national anthem, but we settled for her understudy. MT @Nailers_Off_Ice: @Condors Rochelle, Rochelle.

While the theme night is fun, it’s also for a good cause. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off to attendees and the proceeds will be donated to the M.A.R.E. Riding Center in Bakersfield, which provides therapeutic equine activities for those with mental and physical disabilities.
