Mayim Bialik Candidly Describes the “Complicated Aspects” of Ending a Jewish Marriage

‘Big Bang Theory’ actress, Mayim Bialik, decided to take the opposite approach to her current divorce to Michael Stone. While most celebrities try to keep their personal struggles out of the public eye, Bialik chose to chronicle the entire process through her blog on Jewish mommy blog, Kveller.

In a recent conversation with Access Hollywood, Bialik explained why she thought it was important to share such intimate details with her fans.

“I wanted to write about some of the more complicated aspects…”And specifically, there’s certain things [related] to Jewish divorce that people don’t know about,” Bialik explains

Bialik and Stone had been married for nine years. They officially filed for divorce in November 2012 and their split was legally recognized by the state of California in May 2013, but she explains there were additional steps that needed to be taken for it to be recognized by their Jewish faith, specifically a ‘Get’.

There’s something called a ‘Get’… There’s a religious process. You sit in the same room and you watch your divorce deed be written. It’s actually a very interesting thousands year old document that you watch written and you have to be in the same room as your ex.”

“To me, it was a very cathartic, very emotionally powerful sense of closure for us… It’s very intense. So I wrote for Kveller about some of those aspects in hopes to kind of maybe [be] helpful to other people or other women.”
