Miami Offers $50,000 Reward For Any Info On Rabbi Killing

Early Saturday morning, Brooklyn-based Orthodox rabbi Joseph Raksin was on his way to the local synagogue in North Beach Miami for the morning services.

He never made it there.

The 60-year-old rabbi was shot and killed while en route to the synagogue, Bais Menachem, by two young male suspects who police are currently searching for.

He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Jewish community of Miami is now offering a $50,000 reward for any information connected to the killing, or that can lead to the arrest of the two suspects.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Miami Herald, hours before Raksin’s funeral.

Raksin was in town visiting his daughter and other family members, who are grieving since the heinous attack took place. Make no mistake, his family said, while police have said there is “no indication of this being a hate crime,” Raksin was killed because of his religion.

“It was not a robbery,” said a friend, 56-year-old Elehana Giezinsky. “The criminal element in Miami and New York knows that the Orthodox don’t carry money on the Sabbath.”

“He was targeted because he was Jewish,” added Raksin’s son-in-law, Lieb Ezagui in an interview with The New York Post. “They walked up and shot him and just walked away cold. They didn’t even try to rob him.”

According to a new report from Miami-Dade police, the assailants were two young African-American males, who approached Raksin on the 800 block of NE 175th Street. After confronting him, one suspect got away on foot, while the other fled on his bike.

The crime took place just days after Congregation Torah Ve’emunah, two blocks away from where the rabbi was murdered, was vandalized with swastikas and the word “Hamas.”

Police are asking anyone with info to step up and call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
