New Exhibit Explores Anne Frank’s Family Life

New York City’s Anne Frank Center USA, a partner organization of the Anne Frank House, is currently presenting a new exhibit that aims to give attendees a glimpse into Frank’s family life prior to going into hiding.

Anne Frank’s father, Otto Frank, was the only family member to have survived the Holocaust. When he returned to Amsterdam after the war, he discovered that some of his family’s photo albums had been saved.

Although the last known photo of Anne Frank is from May 1942, just a couple months before she went in the Secret Annex, many images of her and her family in happier times have been salvaged.

“Among them are images depicting their old family life in Frankfurt, their new beginning in Amsterdam, photos of Anne’s sister Margot, and school pictures showing Anne growing older year by year” explains a press release.

The Anne Frank Center USA’s new exhibit entitled ‘Picturing the Frank Family’ features many of the images Otto found upon his return to Anne’s childhood home.

“This exhibit captures the Frank family’s everyday moments and simple pleasures before their lives in hiding began, and in doing so reminds us just much was lost”, the press release states.
