Khurram Syed Sher of London, Ontario was arrested last week in connection with a homegrown Canadian terror plot, though many perhaps know his face from his audition for Canadian Idol back in 2008.

Interestingly, however, Sher, 28, spent three weeks in 2008 completing an internship at a hospital in East Jerusalem, where former peers are skeptical of the accusations against him, CBC News reported.

Sher spent his three week internship in June 2008 doing a rotation in the pathology department of the Maqassed hospital. The placement was part of his medical studies at McGill University. The hospital is the primary-care facility for Palestinians from Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, according to CBC.

Sher's former supervisor and colleagues said they were shocked to hear of the charges laid against him.

"I don’t believe that Khurram is a bad man, never," said Dr. Barkat Sharabati, a pathologist. "He’s very quiet, very nice … and he’s professional."

Naifa Dawod, a lab technician who worked with Sher, said she was stunned to hear of the allegations against him.

"What I remember about him, he is a good guy,” said Dawod."And he work… faithfully and work hard, and he likes his job."

Hospital officials also told CBC that Sher sent a modest donation to the hospital, although administrators said that is a common practice.

Sher, and the two other accused men - Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh, 30, and Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, both of Ottawa - will be back in court September 1st.
