Egypt Claims Mossad Is Behind Red Sea Shark Attack

The once peaceful and busy beaches of Sinai, Egypt have been abandoned lately as numerous shark attacks have occurred along its golden shore. The latest of which left one German tourist dead. The attacks have spread panic all across Sinai and have led locals to raise some odd suggestions regarding what might have caused the sharks' aggressive behavior ranging from lack of food to a plot to harm Egyptian tourism by the Israeli Mossad.

On Sunday, a short time after Egypt has lifted a ban on swimming in the imposed area, due to three Russians and a Ukrainian having already been injured, a 70-year-old German woman has been found dead on the shore at Sharm el-Sheikh after yet another mysterious shark attack. Officials said the shark had taken a chunk out of her right thigh and bitten through her right elbow. Local dive instructors said single shark attacks are extremely rare in the area and are still wondering why so many people were attacked in such a short period.

The government, which is currently clueless regarding the cause of the behavior of the sharks, has invited international experts to help locate the killer shark. "There is not one reason that will be ignored. We are seeking any reason that causes a change in shark behavior," said Ahmed el-Edkawi, assistant secretary for the South Sinai region.

There has been a claim that the sharks had been drawn to shallow waters, due to the scent of cattle which were shipped in for last month's Islamic feast of the sacrifice, the Eid al-Adha. However, others suggested it could have been a part of a secret plan by Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. And while it is not rare to see Egyptians blaming neighboring Israel for a variety of domestic problems, it seems this time the claims are a little bit far fetched.

"What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark, to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm," South Sinai Governor Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha was quoted as saying by state news site egynews.net. Nevertheless, other have raised a more reasonable reason to the attacks, claiming the rarity of tuna fish due to overfishing is what's causing the mayhem.

Moreover, the deadly attacks raised fears of a long-term hit to the tourism sector, which is one of Sinai's prime money makers. "We have seen more attacks in a few days than in the previous 15 years," said Florian Herzberg, a local dive operations manager at Sharm. "It could be a shark with behavioral problems that was deliberately fed different things and now associates humans with food."

It seems that between dealing with Iran's nuclear plan and claims by foreign media to the organization's connection to the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh and Imad Mornia, the Mossad has time to train lethal sharks and scare off Egypt- bound tourists. And, while it might come as a compliment that the Mossad is so feared, all we can do is laugh at the lack of seriousness behind these preposterous accusations that only Dr. Evil would be proud of:
