Three Italian Nuns Killed in North Israel Car Crash
Three nuns killed and two injured after car crash in Northern Israel. Nuns were traveling from Italy to the Holy Land for Christmas.
A car carrying five nuns from Italian making their way to Jerusalem slammed into a concrete lamppost on Route 90, south of the Sea of Galilee in Northern Israel on Friday.
Two of the nuns were pronounced dead immediately following the accident- the third passed away at Haifa’s Rambam hospital later in the afternoon. A fourth nun is said to be in serious condition, while the fifth one only sustained minor wounds. The woman with minor injuries was taken for further medical care to Haemek Hospital in Afula.
The nuns (all reported to be in their 40’s) were attended to by Magen David Adom rescue services. Yaniv Yosef, a paramedic and member of the first intensive care unit at the scene of the crash, said the women were outside the vehicle when they arrived.
“The moderately wounded woman had trouble speaking because of the shock… I try to converse with her in English but without success”, he said.
All five of the women were traveling to The Holy Land to celebrate Christmas. The three deceased nuns were nationals of Italy, Malta, and Jordan.
