Gabrielle Giffords' Remarkable Recovery Continues
Gifford regains speech, continues to recover
Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, shot in the head during a shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona on January 8 that killed six and injured 13, has reached a new milestone in her remarkable recovery.
When Giffords was served breakfast on Monday, February 7th, instead of settling for what she was offered, she requested toast. The ability for Giffords to regain speech after her ordeal was one area of great concern.
Giffords's husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, will be commanding the Endeavour space shuttle mission in April. "You learn to separate the mission from things that might be going on in your personal life," said Kelly when asked if he would be able to focus on the task at hand given his wife's condition.
