Gabrielle Gifford's shooter "unfit" to stand trial
Loughner not yet fit for trial but will be assessed again in September.
Jared LoughnerPic: NULLJared Loughner, the man accused of shooting Jewish U.S. Republican Gabrielle Gifford in the head on January 8, as well as killing six others in the “meet-the-constituents” event in Tucson, is not yet fit for trial according to U.S. District Court Judge Larry Burns.
However, Loughner, who reacted violently during the hearing and had to be taken out of the courtroom, will be assessed again in September.
Judge Burns decided that Loughner lacks “a rational understanding of the proceedings" presently, before sending him to a psychiatric facility.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Giffords continues to make remarkable progress with her recovery.
