Omri Casspi Returns Home to Play for Maccabi Tel Aviv
After expressing his discontent and frustration over the current National Basketball Association lockout, Israeli-born Omri Casspi, the first Israeli player to dribble in the NBA, has signed with powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Casspi made his feelings known over the weekend, and even suggested that he would not be upset it the union was disbanded, via NBA players’ favourite mode of communication these days - Twitter.
Omri, traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the off-season after playing two seasons with the Sacramento Kings is expected to join his new/old, and definitely temporary teammates within a few weeks.
Casspi, who was also believed to have been considering an offer to play in Italy, joins other NBA players who have moved to Europe until the NBA lockout is settled, including the New Jersey Nets' Deron Williams, San Antonio's Tony Parker and Utah's Andrei Kirilenko.
As is the case with all NBA players signing with European teams during the NBA lockout, Casspi will return to the NBA and the Cleveland Cavaliers if and when the NBA lockout ends.
