UPDATE: French National Not in Custody for Toulouse School Shooting
24-year-old suspect has ties to al-Qaida
Contrary to previous reports, Mohammed Mera, the suspect in Monday's shooting at the Ozar Hatorah school in Toulouse, is not in custody according to French authorities.
Merah, a 24-year-old French national of Algerian descent with reported ties to al-Qaida, has been on the radar of French intelligence organizations for years.
Merah’s brother is also involved in the shootout which has already injured two French police officers.
Wednesday standoff coincides with the reopening of the school in Toulouse which was closed since Monday’s attack which resulted in the death of seven.
The victims were buried in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning in front of thousands of onlookers.
