A Jewish High School for girls has ordered students to either delete their Facebook accounts or risk expulsion.

An official from the the Beis Rivkah High School in Brooklyn, New York, said that the crackdown on the world’s most popular social network is due to a decline in the students’ ‘code of modesty’ which is being caused by Facebook.

All grade 11 girls with Facebook accounts were removed from class and given the warning.

Shaindel Teichtel, the school principal, defended the decision, saying that the ban is “in keeping with the highest quality standards of educating our students, within the context of a pure and sacred Torah environment.”

‘People on the board said it’s not proper for us to have Facebook because girls might be talking to boys on Facebook or they might be putting up immodest pictures,” said a student of the school to the Algemeiner newspaper.

It is unclear yet whether other grades will be subject to the same action.
