HonestReporting Canada Battles Bias Against Israel
Since 2003, HonestReporting Canada (HRC) has been following media coverage of Israel and the Middle East, recognizing excellence in reporting and exposing inaccuracies when needed. Among its successes during the month of December are the following:
On December 28, an article published on CBC’s website stated that Israel is planning to build 700 new apartments in East Jerusalem while leaving readers with the false impression that the houses were being built for Jews in East Jerusalem only. In fact, reciprocal building is being planned in the Arab neighbourhood of Silwan. Following a letter by HRC to the CBC, the article was corrected.
The article as it originally appeared on CBC’s website can be found here: http://www.honestreportingcanada.net/CBCNews.mht
The amended article following HRC’s letter may be found here:

An article published on December 24 in the Kingston Whig-Standard, profiling a local woman planning to spend her vacation in the march to the Gaza border, falsely reported that during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, the IDF had faced a ghost army. The article also failed to mention the reasons that led to the operation and claimed that Israel currently occupies the Gaza Strip. A letter to the editor by the HRC setting the facts straight was later published in the Whig-Standard.
The December 21 edition of the Calgary Herald included a column by Kevin Brooker which gave opinions on the Israel’s alleged possession of nuclear weapons and equated Israel with the Iranian regime. HRC wrote a letter to the editor pointing out the absurdity of this comparison. The letter was published in the December 24 issue of the paper.
HRC also credited the National Post for their publishing of a discourse by Prof. David Phillips of Northeastern University on "The myth of Israel's illegal settlements" in their December 29 issue.
