A 28-year-old university student from Israel was injured in the Moscow metro blasts on Monday.

The student, David Ben David, was kept in hospital over Passover for sustaining shrapnel wounds to his leg.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin vowed on Monday to destroy those responsible for attacks, stating in a conference with senior emergency officials that "A crime that is terrible in its consequences and heinous in its manner has been committed."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, saying “As a nation that is itself the target of terror attacks, Israel expresses profound solidarity with the Russian people and shares in its grief.”

Netanyahu added, “We stand together, along with other civilized nations in the fight against terror - a threat to mankind itself.”

The terrorist bombing of the Moscow subway system earlier this week killed 39, and wounded more than 100. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, militants operating at Afghan-Pakistan border may have been involved in the attacks, helping to organize the two female suicide bombers.

The first station bombed was Lubyanka in central Moscow, which is located beneath the building that houses the main offices of Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB. The second station, Park Kultury, was hit 45 minutes later.

According to a report by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, explosives equivalent to approximately 6 kilograms of TNT were used in the two attacks. In both cases, the bombs were filled with metal nuts and bolts in order to increase the injury potential of the blast.

According to Russian state security, both bombers likely had ties to the North Caucasus, which is the centre of an Islamist insurgency against Moscow.
