Omri Casspi Shocked Over Trade to New Orleans Pelicans [UPDATE]

26-year old Israeli forward, Omri Casspi, was shocked to discover that he will be moving from Houston to New Orleans next season.

After signing a two year deal with the Houston Rockets last summer, the basketball star thought Texas would be his new home. Prior to signing with the Rockets, Casspi spent the first four years of his NBA career on the Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Not only was Casspi surprised that he was set to join his fourth team in five years, the Rockets couch, Kevin McHale, seemed equally shocked.

“I didn’t even know… I love Omro, he’s a great kid,” McHale said.

Casspi was dropped out of Houston’s rotation in the playoffs last season, not playing for a single moment of their first round defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers. The forward averaged 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over the season.

In addition to his fresh start on New Orleans’ young and promising team, Casspi will rejoin the Israel national team in training this week ahead of the EuroBasket qualifiers.

UPDATE: Casspi is expected to be released by the New Orleans Pelicans, making him free to sign with any team. More info here.
