Paul Rudd and Jon Hamm Had a Trivial Pursuit Showdown to Win a Girl's Heart

It turns out Paul Rudd and Jon Hamm once shared the same taste in women a long time ago… when they were both teenagers. Vanity Fair revealed an anecdote featuring both actors fighting over the same girl once upon a time in their June issue profiling ‘Mad Men’ actor, Jon Hamm.

The drama starts with a mutual friend: Preston Clarke. Clarke was a friend of Hamm’s during high school and even took his sister, Sarah Clarke, to the prom. However, things got spicier when Sarah met Preston’s college roommate, Paul Rudd. According to Vanity Fair, “there were sparks” when Sarah first laid eyes on the handsome Paul Rudd.

Rudd, being the charming guy we all know and love, decided to visit Clarke’s family to get the jump on Hamm.

“I thought he was coming to visit me, but obviously he was coming to visit my sister. Hamm was there because he was always at my house,” recalled Preston Clarke, adding that, “”Paul knew that Jon had taken Sarah to prom. He was slightly intimidated.”

The visit ended in a Trivial Pursuit showdown between Hamm and Rudd, the latter feeling a bit outmatched.

“He seemed like he was a good-looking, athletic guy who possessed qualities I did not possess. We were playing Trivial Pursuit in teams. Sarah and I were on one team and Jon and Preston were on the other team. Jon would want to go right to Yellow, which was History, and I was like, ‘Oh, great, this guy is smart too,’” Paul Rudd explained to Vanity Fair.

“They would ask a question like ‘What is the largest lake in Africa?,’ and Jon immediately went, ‘Lake Victoria.’ I felt so emasculated in the game that, as a result, I started reading atlases.”

While Paul Rudd may have felt like the underdog, he went on to winning Sarah’s heart, dating her for a while afterwards.
