Peace Not Hate: A New Ad Campaign Blasts the ASA for Israel Boycott

The Israel Project is funding a campaign that asks why NYU is supporting "academic bigotry"

On Wednesday, a new ad campaign began to draw attention to the American Studies Association (ASA) and the New York University faculty member who acts as the group’s president, reports the Algemeiner.

The ad campaign is critical of ASA’s academic boycott of Israel.

Funded by the advocacy group The Israel Project, the campaign asks, “Why is NYU supporting academic bigotry?” The campaign claims that the American Studies Association “joined the hate-campaign against Israel by voting to boycott Israeli professors.”

Additionally, supporters of the new ad campaign believe that NYU should have immediately pulled their funding of the American Studies Association, though the university did not.

“By steering university funding to a group that fuels academic bigotry, NYU is betraying its students and its own commitment to academic openness,” the campaign reads. A petition against the boycott has already been started.

New York University’s president has condemned the ASA’s boycott, however, it appears the group will continue its boycott, based on what it sees as “Israel’s legalized system of racism” towards Palestinians, according to the ASA website.

The group’s president, NYU Social and Cultural Analysis Professor Lisa Duggan, is currently experiencing the backlash of the group’s stance. Forbes Investigative Journalist Richard Behar wrote a 15,000-word exposé that was very critical of Duggan and the ASA.

Duggan later accused the reporter of being homophobic.

Despite the negative publicity, the ASA president moved forward with a conference on campus where supporters of Israel were allegedly not invited.

On Tuesday , Behar was awarded The Algemeiner’s ‘Story of the Year Award,’ for his exposé on the American Studies Association, along with The Observer‘s Ken Kurson.

The ad campaign against the ASA and Lisa Duggan was delivered via Google AdWords, with a landing page entitled “Peace Not Hate.”
