If you’ve ever seen the big-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief then you might be surprised to find out that the Percy Jackson book series is being adapted once more, but not into another film. According to Backstage.com, TheaterWorks – a professional off-Broadway company – is producing a musical based on The Lightning Thief.

The musical will follow the storyline of the book series, but instead opting for older actors to portray the young characters, such as the 12-year-old Percy Jackson in the book.

The character descriptions have already been listed here, but here are the descriptions for three of the main characters.

The role of Percy Jackson (portrayed by Logan Lerman in the films) is described as one who is meant, “to play 12, must believably play teens, finds out he is a demi-god, our story’s hero, must have a strong presence, a sense of humor, and be extremely likable, has a short temper and is very impatient but is also fiercely loyal and brave, think Daniel Radcliff (sic), young Johnny Galecki, or Toby Maguire; strong pop-rock tenor.”

In addition, Grover is described as,“a happy-go-lucky satyr, like a hippie kid, Percy Jackson’s best friend and protector, must have a great voice and strong comedic chops, think Josh Gad, Jonah Hill, or a young Ashton Kutcher; folk/pop tenor.”

And lastly, the character of Clarisse is listed as one in which “all physical types encouraged, the meanest toughest girl at camp, will also play Sally, Percy’s mother, Mrs. Dodds, The Oracle, Aunty Em; high rock belter, soprano with high belt.”

Directing this show is Stephen Brackett, working from a script written by Joe Tracz and music and lyrics provided by Rob Rokicki.

Before The Lightning Thief will be going on a tour, the musical is scheduled to run from March 17th to March 27th at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, an off-Broadway playhouse located in New York City.
