Rabbi Sari Laufer Ends Up Performing Poorly On Jeopardy

The New York-based rabbi apparently succumbed to stage fright and left with only $1,500 after one episode

After fulfilling her dream to appear on Jeopardy, it seems that Rabbi Sari Laufer of New York succumbed to stage fright, leaving her with only $1,500 by the end of her first, and only, appearance on the famous TV game show.

In her only episode that aired earlier this month, Laufer answered numerous questions — on topics ranging from the Magna Carta to the band U2. While she was in the lead at the game’s midpoint, in the end, she had only $1,500 to her name.

Even though her versatility was exemplified in her performance at midpoint, the Rabbi choked on questions including one about Barbra Streisand’s “Yentl” and another about Hitler’s annexation of the Sudetenland. The former in particular must be pretty embarrassing for her.

Laufer is an associate rabbi at Manhattan’s Congregation Rodeph Sholom and is not the first rabbi—or even the first female one—to make an appearance on the popular quiz show. However, it was the spirit of her recently deceased grandmother that gave the Rabbi comfort during her appearance and, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, “I was able to be there and feel like my grandmother was with me.”

Evidently, it seems that all the knowledge in the world cannot help a person on Jeopardy, instead it is relaxation and agility rather than pure knowledge.
