Seth MacFarlane Defends Hitler Joke, Asks Austria to Take Arnold Back

The Oscars host got in a bit of trouble during the nominations announcement

On Thursday, Academy Awards host and ‘Family Guy’ creator, Seth MacFarlane, joined Emma Stone to announce the nominations for Hollywood’s biggest awards ceremony.

Both Stone and MacFarlane made some jokes and attempted to make the usually dry affair a little more fun… MacFarlane has learned, however, that he might have taken it a little too far.

After announcing ‘Amour’ in the Best Picture category, MacFarlane joked that “the last time Austria and Germany got together and co-produced something it was Hitler, but this is much better.”

Immediately after the nominations ceremony concluded, a reporter on CNN commented, “If he’s getting away with Hitler jokes at 5:30 in the morning, what’s he going to get away with at the Oscars?”

That’s a good question… especially considering MacFarlane choose to address those offended by the Hitler joke with another joke.

“Lotta flap over that Adolf joke. Look, Amour was a great film, so how about this: Austria, we’ll give you the Oscar if you take back Arnold,” he tweeted.

He also made a joke about being nominated for Best Song in his feature film debut, ‘Ted’.

“thanks Academy for the nom — I’ll be calm when you tell me it was an error.”

Watch Seth MacFarlane at The Academy Awards on Feb. 24th at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT.
