Shabbat-Observing Drugdealers Busted by NY Police

The suspects of a massive drug ring reportedly closed down operations each Friday to Saturday to observe the Sabbath

The Associated Press reports that New York police have busted a massive drug ring in Brooklyn.

But not just any drug ring; this particular crew of heroin and oxycodone slinging dealers are apparently shomer Shabbat.

Police have reported that the suspects shut down their operation every Friday evening, so they could observe the Sabbath (the Jewish day of rest), and would make services available again once the Sabbath was over, only affirming that it’s not only doctors, lawyers and accountants that can be good role models for the Jewish community.

I mean, here you have a crew of successful drug lords who could have easily upped their profits (I’d assume, like any other retail business, that weekends bring in more bucks) but refused to do so in honour of their traditions.

Good for them for providing positive role models for fellow Jewish drug enthusiasts.

The suspects were allegedly selling heroin and oxycodone pills; at the time of the arrest, they were charged with using stolen prescription pads, and were in possession of 23,000 oxycodone pills.

That’s a street value of $460,000.

New Yorks Special Narcotic Prosecutor’s office said that text messages were sent to the customers of the Brooklyn dealers, letting them know that services would never be available on Shabbat.

New York investigators have referred to the operation as “Only After Sundown.”

Who knows, maybe in a few years, someone will make a movie out of it starring Jesse Eisenberg.
