Shia LaBeouf’s highly-controversial Lars von Trier film ‘Nymphomaniac’ is set to premiere in New York City next week at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). While the entire cast and crew are expected to be in attendance, LaBeouf has announced a “scheduling conflict” will be prevent him from making an appearance.
Normally an actor’s choice not to appear at their film’s premiere wouldn’t become news, especially if they’re in production on another project… but considering LaBeouf’s public stunts recently, one can only assume this choice is part of a larger plan or agenda.
Fans, critics, and gossipers haven’t quite decided whether LaBeouf has lost his mind or is in the midst of a performance art project a la Joaquin Phoenix. Earlier this year, the former ‘Transformers’ star announced his intent to retire from public life after being accused of plagiarism.
After his sarcastic apologies were ignored and/or poorly received (mostly because the apologies in themselves were plagiarized) , he continued with a series of other stunts. Most notably arriving on a red carpet with a paper bag covering his head with “I am not famous anymore” written on the front and starring in his own silent art installation in Los Angeles a la Marina Abramović.
