South African Official: Jews Are 'Complicit' with 'Murder' of Palestinians

Tony Ehrenreich, a South African union leader and provincial secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions’ Western Cape branch, is under fire after publishing a rather offensive, and arguably anti-Semitic, post onto his Facebook page, saying that local South African Jews, particularly the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) should be held accountable for “the murder of the people in Gaza.”

“The time has come to say very clearly that if a woman or child is killed in Gaza, then the Jewish board of deputies, who are complicit, will feel the wrath of the People of SA with the age old biblical teaching of an eye for an eye,” he wrote. “The time has come for the conflict to be waged everywhere the Zionist supporters fund and condone the war killing machine of Israel.”

Sadly, this seems to be a growing trend among South African officials.

Days after the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, the country’s ruling party – the African National Congress – compared the Israel Defense Forces to the Nazi Party. Days later, an ANC employee posted a photo of Adolf Hitler onto her Facebook wall, along with the caption “Yes man, you were right!”

South African authorities have also began prosecuting against local civilians who serve in the Israel Defense Forces.

Following his post, the SAJBD have filed both criminal and civil charges against Ehrenreich for inciting violence against the country’s Jewish community, and for hate speech.

“Ehrenreich’s inflammatory post incites violence and hatred against the representative body for South African Jewry. What makes it even worse is the fact that he holds a leadership position within COSATU, South Africa’s largest trade union organisation. It also comes at a time of heightened tension over the Israel-Gaza conflict, thereby inflaming an already volatile situation,” stated SAJBD Chairman Mary Kluk.

Following the organization’s charge, Ehrenreich tweeted that he is not anti-Semitic, though I doubt he’s convincing anybody.
