Spielberg Takes Summer Off to Sail the World in $200 Million Yacht
The ‘Lincoln’ director plans to revisit the locations from his most classic films
Academy-award winning director, Steven Spielberg, may have over 25 productions on his plate including Jurassic Park 4, Tintin 2, and a Moses biopic… but that’s not going to stop him from taking the entire summer off to travel the world via boat.
Spielberg, who was raised in the Arizona dessert once remarked that he got seasick while shooting Jaws. Now he plans to go aboard his recently acquired $200 million yacht with his actress wife, Kate Capshaw, to revisit the sites of some of his most classic films.
Beginning in North Africa and Sri Lanka (Indiana Jones), he will sail open seas, stopping in countless locations, including Shanghai (Empire of the Sun) and Hawaii (Jurassic Park). The 66-year old living legend will travel over 30,000 miles with his wife, and some of his seven children.
Spielberg will host this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but has cleared all other commitments for the duration of the summer.
The yacht was purchased from a Dutch shipyard two years ago, is 282 feet long, and features a spa, outdoor cinema, a helipad, and two “spare” motorboats.
