In the Swedish city of Malmö, the capital of Skane County and the country’s third most populated city, a 38-year-old man was severely assaulted after hanging an Israeli flag outside his window, reports the JTA.

He’s since been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place Sunday night, reports the Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet. After hanging the flag, the man, who remains unnamed at this point, noticed that stones were being hurled at his window.

Upon walking downstairs to see what the commotion was about, a group of men, waiting outside, beat the victim with metal bars, according to Linda Pleym, a spokesperson for the Malmö Police.

“He was attacked, because of the flag,” said Pleym.

Somehow, the victim was able to escape the group of attackers, and was eventually found by a passerby on a nearby street before being rushed to the hospital.

Police have no suspects in custody thus far.

Currently, 300,000 live in Malmö, where roughly a third of the population is made up of Muslims.

JTA reports that “several dozen” anti-Semitic attacks take place in the city annually, and that the Jewish community there had tried to increase the amount of security cameras monitoring Jewish buildings, but were refused.
