What better way to promote a Shul service targeted to Jews in their 20’s and 30’s than to put a fun spin on the hottest song of the summer?

The Stephen Wise Free Synagogue has released a hilarious parody of Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s number one song ‘Blurred Lines’ entitled ‘A Good Shul’.

The funny cover ditty says “if you’re tryin’ to find… a funky place to pray,’ why not try out SWFS’s Shabbat After Dark, trendy Friday night services that feature a full band and the opportunity to meet other Jews in their 20’s and 30’s.

Following each Shabbat service, the Shul invites you to have drinks, casual conversation, and “the sweet taste of Insomnia Cookies.”

Watch the ‘Blurred Lines’ parody below and follow along with the pasted lyrics.

Everybody get up

Rabbi: Everybody sit down!…

Everybody get up
Sha-sha-bat
Sha-sha-lom
Af-ter Dark

If you’re tryin’ to find…a funky place to pray
If you’re tryin’ to meet…cool people your same age
Maybe you’re leanin’ left,
Maybe you’re leanin’ right,
Maybe you need a taste of wine….

The week comes to a close, we’ll celebrate it with you
Make Shabbos beautiful, baby come greet your neighbor
Just let it liberate you
Sha-sha-bat
Light those two candle tapers
Sha-sha-lom
To keep and to remember
Af-ter Dark

And that’s why you need a good shul…
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
To make a good Jew…
Insomnia cookie?
This wine’s fantastic!
Talk about the Torah
Come down to Stephen Wise…
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
To find a good shul…
The band is jammin’
Rabbis are classy
After Dark, is happenin’

We’re groovin’ with the cantor
We’re shmoozin’ at the oneg
This party’s off the hook now
There’s so many Jews in this place
We feel so lucky
Sha-sha-bat
To have community
Sha-sha-lom
What rhymes with community?
Af-ter Dark

[“Groovin’ Granny” Matchmaker]:

One thing I ask of you:
When you gonna find someone good for you?
From to Park Avenue to The Carlbach Shul,
I don’t care who, just make sure they’re a Jew!
So, what they teach you back in Hebrew school?
Gotta getcha someone good with Jewish val-ues
[Kvetch on], sure you can go and date virtual
But, J-Dating is almost unbearable
So, honey get on down to Stephen Wise
On Friday nights at six o’clock just swing on by
Nothing like your last shul, they’re too square for you
They don’t fill your glass and pull off prayers like that
So… just like… this page… for you to get news just give it a click
Just log on in and get R.S.V.P.in’
Have a nice time, just make sure you get home safely!

Bless the wine, get down, drink up…
Do you like to flirt? Like dessert?
But you won’t do work?

Baby whatcha need? We got our own matchmaker
She always works for me, from onegs to the seder, uh huh
No more work pending
Sha-shab-bat
Just say a blessing
Sha-sha-lom
Here’s to our beginning

And that’s why you need a good shul…
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
To make a good Jew…
Insomnia cookie?
This wine’s fantastic!
Talk about the Torah
Come down to Stephen Wise…
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
To find a good shul…
The band is jammin’
Rabbis are classy
After Dark, is happenin’

Everybody get up,
Everybody get up,
Sha-sha-bat
Sha-sha-lom
Af-ter Dark
